WARRINGTON Wolves’ pre-season friendly against Halifax Panthers this weekend has been postponed.

The Wire were due to be sending a youthful side across the Pennines to face the Championship outfit at The Shay Stadium on Sunday in a Testimonial match for long-serving Fax outside-back James Saltonstall, who came through the Warrington academy before joining his hometown club in 2015.

However, both clubs have this evening confirmed that the game will not go ahead this weekend due to the wintry weather that has engulfed much of the country in recent days, which is set to continue throughout the week.

Temperatures in Halifax are expected to be below freezing for much of the week, leading to an early call being made to call the match off, although the possibility of rearranging the fixture is being left on the table.

It leaves Warrington with just the two pre-season fixtures before their competitive season begins, with both being at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

They welcome neighbours Widnes Vikings on Friday, January 17, when the team is set to be comprised of younger members of the first-team squad with a smattering of senior players.

A stronger Wire side is then set to be fielded for Toby King’s Testimonial match against Leigh Leopards on Saturday, February 1.
