Defender Tyrell Malacia drew comparisons with Manchester United's recent struggles after making his debut for a stuttering PSV Eindhoven on Saturday.

Fresh from arriving on loan from United for the remainder of the season in midweek, Malacia made his debut for the Eredivisie table-toppers as they drew 1-1 at home to Willem II.

Despite currently sitting at the top of the Dutch top flight, three points clear of second-placed Ajax, PSV are experiencing an underwhelming run of form at this juncture, winning just one of their last five league matches.

Malacia was thrown straight into the starting line-up to make his debut for the club and stored 78 minutes under his belt. He produced a respectable performance on his first outing for his new club, completing two clearances, producing three key passes and boasted a 93 per cent passing accuracy.

"Of course I'm happy with my debut, but certainly not with the result," Malacia told NOS. "I'm happy to be here and have been well received by the fans, also by the guys in the team and the staff."

Despite being pleased with his individual contribution, Malacia was critical of the team's overall performance, insisting they must do better when they face Juventus in Turin in the first leg of their Champions League play-off tie on Tuesday.

He continued: "It wasn't good enough, our tempo was too slow and we didn't score enough. But I think we have to keep our heads up, because we have to be there again on Tuesday."

Despite being part of a team that is struggling for form at this moment in time, Malacia suggested it is not unchartered territory for him, suggesting he has been used to difficult situations from his time at United.

"I don't know if you've watched football, but where I was in England it wasn't going well either," Malacia added. "I try to give energy to the team."
