Watch the argument that saw Ian Wright investigated by Ofcom

Ian Wright has been cleared by television regulator Ofcom after an argument with Roy Keane in which he appeared to mock his Irish lilt.

Wright and Keane were pundits for ITV during England’s World Cup semi-final clash against Croatia, and the two began to argue over England’s attitude to the final.

Keane claimed the nostalgic use of the, ‘Football’s Coming Home,’ refrain was an indication that England were expecting to reach the final without acknowledging the need to beat Croatia first.

In return, Wright mocked Keane’s Irish brogue by repeating the word, ‘Final,’ in a cod-Irish accent.

Ofcom decided that the, ‘exchange was intended in good humour,’ following complaints over Wright’s contribution.

“We carefully assessed complaints from viewers who objected to one pundit imitating another’s accent,” they stated.

“However, we found the exchange was intended in good humour.”

Keane was furious that England had not taken Croatia seriously, saying: “Before the game, all the talk was about the final. The final and France

“I made the point a few weeks ago, I know a bit tongue-in-cheek but you have to focus on one game and football’s coming home.

“I didn’t mind you being happy but you got carried away, planning the final and the parades. And I was right. You needed a reality check.”

Wright replied: “We wasn’t talking about the final, we were just having a laugh with you. We were happy! Why can’t we get excited?”

Keane would not let it go, saying: “Get excited when they get to the final! It was the semi-final, group matches. Take it one game as it comes.

“It is ridiculous, you are a grown man, you have played this game. You know how hard it is to get to these finals or even get to the World Cup. Relax yourself.”

Thankfully the two icons of sport were able to patch up their differences.
