Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa all made it into the Champions League last-16 without the need for the play-off round but Manchester City finished lower down the standings. As a result, it is facing off with Real Madrid in an early mammoth knockout tie.

While coming up against the Spanish giant will mean the chance to be involved in a glamor double-header, Pep Guardiola would much rather have avoided such an outcome. His struggling side only just managed to beat Leyton Orient over the weekend.

In the UK, Manchester City vs Real Madrid, with the first leg taking place at the Etihad Stadium, will be shown live on Amazon Prime Video, where it can be streamed. In the US, it can be viewed live on Paramount+.

Rodri is the only player that Manchester City will definitely be without for this game. New signing Nico Gonzalez limped off over the weekend as he made his debut in the FA Cup but has since been spotted in training. Ederson, Nathan Ake and Jeremy Doku have minor knocks but could soon be back involved again.

Real Madrid is still missing several key players. Daniel Carvajal (ACL), Eder Militao (ACL), Antonio Rudiger (muscle), David Alaba (adductor) and Lucas Vazquez (hamstring) are all out. Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, though, will start and be a key part of a strong attack that will terrify a Manchester City side which has looked much more open than usual for months.

"Since I have been here this is maybe the most difficult season so far," Manchester City center-back Ruben Dias said during his press conference ahead of the game. "But I am a firm believer that in the most difficult scenario, you can still achieve something beautiful.

"We know it will be difficult to get there but we have to believe in what we have in the dressing room. With the right belief, we are able to do anything."
