Two of the sport's biggest names might've pulled out, but there's still plenty to play for at snooker's Scottish Open.

Edinburgh's Meadowbank plays host to this year's event, with reigning champion Gary Wilson having already fallen at the first hurdle. The remaining players will now fight it out for 2024's final ranking title, with an all-star line up including Scotland's very own John Higgins, China's Ding Junhui and Englishman Mark Selby - all of whom will be dreaming of lifting the Stephen Hendry Trophy across a packed week of action. Two big names who won't feature however are world number one Judd Trump who, fresh off the back of winning the UK Championship, announced that he'll be restricting his competition time as he aims for World Championship glory at the Crucible in April - and Ronnie O'Sullivan, who pulled out late on, and is believed to be focusing on the lucrative Riyadh Season Snooker Championship later this month.

That opens up the draw somewhat given Trump's sparkling form in York, and fans could be treated to some superb spectacles in a packed week of action. A home player hasn't won the tournament since Stephen Hendry in 1999, the man Hendry defeated that day - Graeme Dott - is already out but two other Scots will be joining Higgins in dreaming of home glory in the shape of Stephen Maguire and Dean Young.
