Watford were swept aside as Leeds continued their march towards promotion with a 4-0 win at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets didn’t help themselves by gifting the visitors the lead but, once in front, United never looked back and had the game wrapped up by half-time.

There was only one change to the team that drew at Sunderland, with Jeremy Ngakia coming in for Yasser Larouci.

Watford made a bright start and created a couple of decent chances but the game totally changed course from the 20th minute onwards.

A schoolboy error from Edo Kayembe gifted Leeds the lead, they were just too quick on the break for their second and when they went 3-0 up after 34 minutes with the aid of a big deflections, the contest was pretty much over.

As a result, the second half was pretty low-key stuff with Leeds happy to let Watford have the ball and just retain their shape to stop the Hornets doing much with it.

They added a fourth midway through the half but played most of the 45 minutes with a couple of spare gears.

Here’s how the game unfolded:

1 - Aaronson's cross fell into the path of Piroe but his shot was defected over the top.

3 - Andrews cross wasn't cleared and eventually ran to Louza on the edge of the box, whose firm shot was deflected wide.

4 - From the corner, great movement in the box allows Louza to drive the ball to Kayembe, and his volley is deflected wide.

14 - Aaronson broke through the middle and when he played in Piroe and the striker checked inside Pollock, he had a clear chance - but he sent a tame shot at Selvik.

20 – Watford 0 Leeds 1 (James)

A gift. Kayembe attempts a square pass to Dele-Bashiru but hadn't seen James was between the two of them, and the Leeds forward nicked the ball, raced into the box and slotted past Selvik.

28 – Watford 0 Leeds 2 (James)

Such a quick and lethal break from Leeds. Watford had the ball in the box, and all of sudden the visitors are two-on-one, allowing Piroe to slip the ball into the path of James who beat the advancing Selvik with a fierce shot into the roof of the net.

31 - Louza sets Sissoko free on the right and he charges into the box but Meslier blocks his shot.

34 – Watford 0 Leeds 3 (Solomon 34)

That one was unlucky. Solomon collects a throw and cuts across the pitch before letting the fly. The ball hits Pollock and bounces into the other corner with Selvik beaten.

43 - Nearly another gift as Ngakia tries to control a clearance on his chest but only nudges it into the path of James, whose audacious first-time effort from 40 yards clears Selvik but bounces wide.

Half-time – Watford 0 Leeds 3

58 - Andrews breaks from halfway and unleashes a 25-yard shot that skids wide.

62 – Watford 0 Leeds 4 (Piroe)

Difference in class there as Tanaka turns a full circle on the edge of the box and slides the ball into Solomon, who nudges it right to Piroe who skips round Pollock and slots into the corner.

68 - Nearly a hat-trick for James as he plays a sweet one-two with Aaronson but then drags his shot wide of the far post.

69 - Watford make a poor job of clearing their lines and Tanaka sent a first-time shot from the edge of the box just wide.

82 - Gnonto shoots from 20 yards but Selvik is behind it all the way.

84 - That was the chance for a consolation as Louza beautifully slips in Chakvetadze whose shot beats Meslier but clips the bar.

87 - Larouci breaks on the left and slips the ball to Louza on the edge of the box, and his rising drive is tipped over by Meslier.
