Wayne Rooney urged to consider new role - he would be perfect at Manchester United
Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown believes Wayne Rooney would be "absolutely brilliant" as a striker coach for his former club.
Former United striker Rooney is currently out of work after being sacked by Plymouth Argyle on New Year's Eve. Appointed last summer, he left the club with them sat bottom of the Championship table after a run of one win in 14 matches.
Rooney has struggled to make his mark as a manager, experiencing an underwhelming time at Birmingham City last season, being sacked after just 15 games at the helm. His spell in charge, which was between mid-October and the start of January, played a massive part in Birmingham's relegation to League One.

However, Brown believes he could be a suitable option for United as a coach for the club's forwards, admitting that he thinks he would excel in the role.
"If Wayne wanted to spend time as a striking coach he would be absolutely brilliant at it, he was one of the best goalscorers we've ever seen and was a top playmaker as well," Brown told The Sports Daily.
"If he wanted to do that he would be very good on movement and things like that, he was one of the best to do it. Could he help Rasmus Hojlund at United? I think all young strikers would love to listen to Wayne and his knowledge.
"When I was a young player I remember getting a few tips from Laurent Blanc and the little things like that can really help. If Wayne was on hand to give out some advice I'm sure everyone would be willing to listen."
