Wellington AFC secured a victory over Nailsea & Tickenham at the weekend, ending a run of defeats.

The match, played at the Playing Field on Saturday, January 25, saw the Tangerines win 2-0, moving them into 13th place in the league.

On a challenging surface, both teams struggled to gain the upper hand early on.

However, Nailsea gradually began to dominate, with Wellington's new goalkeeper, Jack McAndrews, making several crucial saves to keep the score at 0-0.

Wellington took the lead in first-half stoppage time.

Sam Sheldrake passed to Miles Quick, who scored from outside the area, beating Nailsea's goalkeeper, Jakob Glover, with a precise low shot.

In the second half, Nailsea, who had won 3-0 in the teams' previous meeting, tried to mount a comeback.

However, Wellington's defence, well-organised throughout, proved difficult to break down.

On the one occasion Nailsea did breach the defence, McAndrews was again on hand, making a brave block to deny the advancing striker.

Wellington remained resolute and secured the win with a second goal three minutes from time.

Jack Winsor broke into the Nailsea area, delivering a low cross that substitute James De Selincourt confidently converted.

The entire team performed well, but midfielder Glen Wright, returning to the starting line-up after an ankle injury, was named man of the match.

Wellington, who don't have a midweek fixture, will be at home again on Saturday, February 1, welcoming Saltash United, who are just below them in the table.

The Wellington team consisted of Jack McAndrews, Jordan Hayman, Tom Stone, Kieran Bailey, Alex Cherry, Glen Wright, Jack Winsor, Sam Sheldrake, Josh Lukins, Miles Quick, and Josh Baker.

De Selincourt, along with Jacob Shore and Jake Quick, featured as substitutes, while Sam Towler and Josh Young were not used.
