Welshman Nick Kenny was in tears at the PDC World Championship after beating darts legend Raymond van Barneveld.

The 31-year-old defeated darting icon Raymond van Barneveld at Alexandra Palace on Saturday night, with Kenny beating the five-time world champion 3-1 in the second round in a huge shock in the game.

With double 16 to win, Kenny's miss saw the crowd cheer sarcastically. He got the same response when he missed double eight, but made no mistake with his final dart at double four.

Cue unfiltered elation from the Welshman, as he charged around the stage as 'Chase The Sun' began to play around Ally Pally, with the crowd now pumping him up instead.

Kenny composed himself before shaking hands with Dutchman 'Barny' to console him on his loss. After shaking hands with the scorers, he collected his darts and turned emotional on stage.

Kenny is now into the third round, but will face reigning world champion Luke Humphries in a mammoth task. The pair will face off after Christmas, on December 27.

“It’s surreal, there’s a bit more to it, I have kept my tour card, I believe,” said Kenny.

“It was an absolute privilege to play Raymond van Barneveld on such a stage, he wasn’t at his best but who cares really?

“It is the biggest win of my life by far, it gives me another two years on tour. There was a lot more riding on it personally, I can really move on and really sort myself out.”

The Cwmbran player booked his place at the World Championship by going through the 32 ProTour Order of Merit Qualifiers, and has made his third appearance at the tournament in his career.
