West Ham confirm first January deal as Thilo Kehrer joins Monaco in loan-to-buy move

Thilo Kehrer has completed his loan move to Monaco after falling out of favour amid West Ham’s fine start to the season.

Kehrer has joined the Ligue 1 side on an initial six-month deal, which will become permanent next summer for a fee of around £9.5million.

The German international is desperate for playing time ahead of this summer’s European Championships on home soil, having not featured for his country since June.

The defender’s departure means West Ham will eventually recoup the majority of the £10.1m they paid to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022.

Kehrer was a regular during his first season in east London, making 38 appearances across all competitions, including 25 starts in the Premier League, and picking up a Europa Conference League winners’ medal.

This term, however, he has played just 18 minutes of league football, with first-choice right-back Vladimir Coufal back to form and Konstantinos Mavropanos’s summer arrival adding to David Moyes’s options at centre-back.
