West Ham are back in for Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran, having previously been knocked back in the summer transfer window - but BirminghamLive Villa fans in our comments section are issuing a firm "hands off" warning to the London club.

Villa have rejected an offer previously thought to be £57 million according to The Telegraph, but now thought to be even lower than that figure. Villa have made their position clear that Duran is not for sale in the current transfer window. Duran has signed a new contract to keep him at Villa Park until 2030, and there is no pressure to sell.

West Ham made a £30 million offer in the summer, before Duran's star really began to rise in the current season, and their interest continues. The young Colombian is competing with Ollie Watkins as Villa's first-rate forward, scoring 12 times in 27 games and drawing the eye of top European sides.

Some Villa fans are giving the struggling London club short shrift in their pursuit. Reader Bremner71 jokes: “If Jhon wants to play in the Championship next season he can go out on loan in August, rather that going down with West Ham.”

Towbartone agrees: “Mate, these other so-called 'big clubs' living in the past will now get the message. This is a new Villa, a genuinely huge club.”

Chosen in 1957 says: “Why would he go to West Ham? The Villa didn't consider their original offer of £30 million because even then he was worth far more. Now as rumour has it he's now valued at £57 million. Where will Jhon be in 2 years' time? I would like Villa to find that out, and not any other wannabe clubs.”

Therealwaysbeanengland writes: “Bet they regret trying to short change us in the summer.”

Pedrogringo says: “As if he would go to West Ham! He has the attention of the best clubs in Europe, he will stay at Villa for now but when he does go it will be to a bigger club with greater ambitions.”

Crazycat1 writes: “No, if we want to challenge for the Champions League every year he is exactly the sort of player we need. If he continues to score like he has been doing NO team will have the money to buy him. In 12 months time he could be worth what we got for selling Grealish, remember he is only 21.”

Thorpyuk says: “Must keep. He is already better than a lot of EPL forwards and isn't yet even at his peak. Build the team around him.”
