West Ham set sights on £15m Ibrahim Osman transfer with Kalvin Phillips medical booked
Kalvin Phillips is set to complete his West Ham switch by the end of the week, with the club now turning their attentions to FC Nordsjaelland winger Ibrahim Osman.
Phillips travelled back to the UK from the Manchester City’s training camp in the UAE yesterday after the clubs struck an agreement over a loan move until end the of the season and is expected to undergo a medical on Thursday.
The deal will include an option to make the move permanent in the summer, though talks over a potential fee were this morning understood to be ongoing.
Phillips has been a long-term target for David Moyes, who failed with a £50million bid to sign the player from Leeds in January 2022, and will arrive at the London Stadium in search of regular football in a bid to solidify his Euro 2024 claims.
The midfielder will become the Hammers first signing of this January window but the club remain active in the market and are in negotiations with Danish side Nordsjaelland over Osman as Moyes looks to strengthen his attacking options.
The 19-year-old is a product of the Right To Dream Academy in Ghana, which has produced a number of players now excelling in Europe’s top leagues, including Hammers star Mohammed Kudus.
Both Brighton and Brentford have previously been linked with moves for Osman, but West Ham now appear firm favourites and are hoping to strike a deal worth around £15million.
At one stage this month, Moyes appeared in desperate need of more senior reinforcements. However, top-scorer Jarrod Bowen recovered quicker than expected to make his return from an ankle injury in the 2-2 draw at Sheffield United on Sunday, while Kudus’s Ghana last night had their shock exit from the Africa Cup of Nations group stage confirmed.
The 23-year-old is expected to be given a few days of over the weekend before returning to training next Monday ahead of the Irons’s Premier League meeting with Bournemouth.
