West Ham vs Fulham LIVE!

West Ham edged Fulham in a five-goal thriller to hand Graham Potter his first win as manager. The turning point in the first-half was the goal that wasn’t allowed to stand as Carlos Soler’s free-kick was brilliantly headed home by Max Kilman but the West Ham defender was in an offside position so his effort was, correctly, ruled out.

Moments later the Hammers took the lead as Soler capitalised on a poor pass from Andreas Pereira across the face of his own box to slam the ball past Bernd Leno and bring up his first Premier League goal in the process. Two minutes and 10 seconds later it was 2-0. A flowing move involving Mohammed Kudus resulted in the ball being switched over to the right-hand side where Aaron Wan-Bissaka cut it back for Tomas Soucek to score.

Early in the second half the visitors pulled one back as Alex Iwobi floated a cross into the box looking for the run of Raul Jimenez who stuck a leg out as the ball flashed passed Fabianski. However, West Ham restored their two-goal lead with just under 20 minutes left as Lucas Paqueta benefitted from an absolute gift. That wasn’t to be the end of the scoring as Iwobi got Fulham back to within one but Adama Traore wasted a guilt-edged chance in injury time which allowed Potter to celebrate a first win as West Ham boss.

West Ham player ratings

21:43 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Mohammed Kudus 6

Pretty ineffectual besides his run and pass in the lead-up to Soucek’s goal. Replaced after half an hour.

Carlos Soler 7

A busy and industrious display from an attacker growing in stature at the club all the time. Scored a fine goal.

Lucas Paqueta 7

Not only found the net for the third (admittedly a gift) but brought others into play and ran at Fulham from the unfamiliar centre-forward position.

They say 2-0 is a dangerous lead, but any lead will do this season at the London Stadium for West Ham, particularly in the new manager's first home game.

West Ham weathered the storm that Fulham unleashed on them in the early moments and then struck decisively through Soler and Soucek.

So far, so good for Potter. Half the way to a first win as the Hammers' new head coach.

Just like that it's 2-0 and Fulham's early start counts for zilch now; they have a mountain to climb. Potter looks delighted in his technical area. Soucek is playing more advanced today because needs must, given attacking absences. But it's paid off!

Standard Sport's Dom Smith at the London Stadium

29 min: Good process lads. A novel moment as VAR works well, correctly sticking with the on-field decision to disallow Kilman's header for offside.

West Ham 0-0 Fulham

17 min: From the resulting corner, Dinos Mavropanos clears the ball but only to Emile Smith Rowe but the ball doesn’t drop quick enough for the midfielder and his effort doesn’t trouble Lukasz Fabianski.

West Ham 0-0 Fulham

Emile Smith Rowe then sees his effort deflected over the bar by Max Kilman after being teed up by Harry Wilson.

14 min: Fulham on the front-foot here at the London Stadium, chasing every loose ball down and having already struck the bar through Harry Wilson. Sasa Lukic just dictating the play from the base of midfield at the moment.

West Ham 0-0 Fulham

19:43 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

11 min: Good play from Fulham as they work the ball from left to right.

Harry Wilson cuts in on to his favoured left foot and lets fly but gets his effort all wrong as the ball sails over the bar.

West Ham 0-0 Fulham

19:38 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

5 min: CROSSBAR

Fulham come close to breaking the deadlock as Harry Wilson is denied by the crossbar.

Poor defending by West Ham from a throw-in as Alex Iwobi sneaks in behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka and lifts the ball into the box but Wilson can’t find the net.

Huge let off for the hosts!

Standard Sport's Dom Smith at the London Stadium

Graham Potter was receptive to a question in yesterday's press conference about whether he might pick Mohammed Kudus to lead the line against Fulham given West Ham's striker woes.

Sure enough, Kudus is selected up front. A penny the thoughts of Danny Ings though, who cannot get a game even when he is the only fit out-and-out striker.

Come rain or storm, his role remains late-in-the-game option off the bench. Stick that on your bingo card for tonight.

Potter reveals Kudus plan

Mohammed Kudus has experience leading the line for both West Ham and previous club Ajax.

And it would appear he has been selected as the focal point against Fulham tonight after Graham Potter revealed he has to get creative amid a shortage of strikers at the club.

“I think sometimes in these situations you have to be creative, you have to look at the attacking players you have and what their attributes are and use them accordingly. Mo's got the capability to do that; it's an option for us.”

Silva ready for Potter

17:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Marco Silva says he’ll know what to expect from West Ham thanks to his previous encounters with manager Graham Potter.

“Of course, we know Graham really well and he knows ourselves well,” the Fulham boss explained to reporters. “It’s not going to be the first time for sure.

“They played a game last Friday. It was a chance for us to analyse and to be honest, what he did and what he planned for his team didn’t surprise us because it’s his team and it’s what he likes to do.

“It’s about focusing on ourselves, what we can do or not, and knowing the main ideas of West Ham is going to be there.”

Predicted West Ham XI

17:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Niclas Fullkrug’s injury leaves Danny Ings as the only fit striker at West Ham, with Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio both already out, and he is primed for a prolonged spell as the focal point of the Hammers attack.

Left-back Emerson has had two days of training and could return, but 19-year-old Ollie Scarles played well in that position against Villa and could keep his place.

Centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo continues to work with the physio, so should again miss out, but Konstantinos Mavropanos is fit.

Predicted West Ham XI (4-2-3-1): Fabianski; Wan-Bissaka, Kilman, Mavropanos, Emerson; Soucek, Alvarez; Summerville, Kudus, Paqueta; Ings

Potter praises Silva

17:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Graham Potter has heaped praise on Fulham and Marco Silva ahead of tonight's London derby.

"I think Marco Silva has done a fantastic job at Fulham, earning promotion with them from the Championship and then developing the team and the club," Potter told reporters yesterday. "They have had key players move on - such as Aleksandar Mitrovic and Joao Palhinha - but because they’ve got a strong team, and strong ideas, they’ve been able to deal with that. I think that’s a good example for anybody.

"They’ve got a lot of options, and they cross the ball really well. They get down the flanks well, and have a dangerous centre forward in the box, and the table shows that they’re a really good side."
