Opta’s League One ‘supercomputer’ is backing Wanderers to finish in the play-off places for the third successive season.

Ian Evatt’s side currently sit 10th in the table and four points behind sixth-place Reading, although they have a game in hand.

The Whites have won two of their last three games thanks to a dramatic late comeback at Exeter, with Aaron Collins and Aaron Morley both getting on the scoresheet.

Bolton are currently tipped to finish sixth by the ‘supercomputer’, which is calculated using a wide range of data from the campaign so far.

The data suggests that Bolton are on track for around 74 points compared to 87 last term, which was enough for third place.

However, there is still half of the season to go and Evatt’s men have certainly proven before that they can go on a strong run after the turn of the year.

The data only gives Wanderers a slim chance of securing automatic promotion given the 14-point gap to the current top two, although their chances of going up through the play-offs are rated reasonably.

Current leaders Birmingham are predicted to finish as champions, having lost just two of their 23 fixtures to date.

Wycombe are expected to clinch the remaining automatic promotion spot. The Chairboys are currently above third-place Wrexham on goal difference, although Phil Parkinson’s side have played a game fewer.

Wrexham, Huddersfield and Reading are tipped to secure the remaining play-off places, with Barnsley narrowly missing out.

The Tykes have won their last four matches in the league, including their late victory at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Boxing Day.

Stockport, Mansfield and Leyton Orient are also expected to make the top 10 ahead of the likes of Charlton, Lincoln and Stevenage.

Here is how Opta predicts the top 10 to look in League One come the end of the season

  1. Birmingham (99pts)

  2. Wycombe (91pts)

  3. Wrexham (82pts)

  4. Huddersfield (82pts)

  5. Reading (74pts)

  6. Wanderers (74pts)

  7. Barnsley (73pts)

  8. Stockport (67pts)

  9. Mansfield (67pts)
