Why Arne Slot has been appointed Liverpool head coach and not manager
The worst-kept secret in football was made official on Monday evening when Arne Slot's arrival to Liverpool was confirmed.
Certainly, there can't be many occasions when the outgoing manager publicly welcomed his imminent successor, as was the case with Jurgen Klopp during his Anfield farewell on Sunday.
Slot, though, will not be entirely following in the German's footsteps.

While Klopp was employed as Liverpool manager, Slot has been given the role of head coach - the 23rd different person to assume the Anfield hotseat but the first to not assume the title of manager, whether that be sole ownership or, in the brief case of Roy Evans and Gerard Houllier, jointly holding the position.
The change in job title is understood to be a reflection of the shift in the modern game and how the majority of clubs in the Premier League and other leading leagues in Europe are moving towards such a way of working.
Liverpool have also taken the decision given the restructure of the club that has been prompted by the departure of Klopp as manager, Jorg Schmadtke as sporting director and a number of key coaching staff members.
The long-term move of Fenway Sports Group towards a multi-club model has seen Michael Edwards and Julian Ward return to the fold of the parent company as chief of football and technical director respectively, while Pedro Marques will become FSG's director of football development and Richard Hughes the new Liverpool sporting director. As with Slot, all will officially start their jobs on June 1.
Liverpool believe the title of head coach reflects the extensive support structure around the role, and will allow Slot to concentrate on the most important aspects of working with the first team.
Slot - who worked as head coach in Holland with Cambur, AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord - will be undisputed leader of the first team and have complete authority over the squad.
