Why Benjamin Sesko ticks all Arsenal's transfer window boxes after new summer striker hint

Arsenal are on the lookout for a younger profile of centre-forward in the summer, football.london understands. The club has moved away from the likes of Ivan Toney as it now sees a vision for the position extending into the future.

A combination of factors have led to this point including the success of Kai Havertz, who currently leads the way in the league for non-penalty goal contributions in 2024. Furthermore, looking across the potential striker options this summer, there is not a gluttony of options to choose from.

This is the reason behind the shift to a younger profile, with the aim that a player with high potential could indeed become the guaranteed option. Newcastle decided to pounce on Alexander Isak, for example, and are seeing a significant pay-off; Rasmus Hojlund has also shown potential at Manchester United.

Fulham's Rodrigo Muniz has excelled since the winter break, whilst Bournemouth are seeing a return on their investment in Dominik Solanke from five years ago. Arsenal are likely to replace Eddie Nketiah and one potential option is RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, whose agent was in attendance for the Gunners' clash with Chelsea.

The Slovenian is a player fitting of the profile that the club is aiming for and has improved across his first full season in the Bundesliga following his move from Red Bull Salzburg. He started out as much more of a bench player but has gradually earned more minutes.

His 15 goals and two assists across all competition is a good return for the 20-year-old. A switch to Arsenal certainly wouldn’t be met with an immediate promotion into the starting squad, especially with Havertz's availability.

However, there is no question that Eddie Nketiah, who came on as Arsenal sought a goal against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, would be upgraded upon with the acquisition of Sesko. As the European competition expands next season, having stronger depth will be key if the Gunners want to occupy one of the top eight spots in the new format of the competition.

In addition to the profile of centre-forward being at the younger end of the spectrum, there is also aim to add a taller threat to continue the theme that has helped Arsenal dominate from set pieces. Havertz only this past weekend rose in the box to meet a corner to score what would become the winning goal in the North London Derby.

At 6ft 5ins, Sesko is one of the tallest young talents around. The Slovenian clearly fits the criteria of what the Gunners are looking for; the questions remain on whether or not they will make a move for him.
