Why isn't Lamar Jackson in Pro Bowl 2025? Ravens QB opts out of All-Star event

Lamar Jackson is coming off what many consider the best season of his career. The Baltimore Ravens quarterback set career-high passing marks while recording more than 5,000 yards of total offense for his team.

Jackson's strong performance has him tracking to win his third NFL MVP award and his second in a row. It wasn't, however, enough to lead the Ravens to a Super Bowl appearance, as they were eliminated in the divisional round of the playoffs after a 27-25 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

With that in mind, many might expect to see Jackson in attendance for the NFL's Pro Bowl Games. After all, he was arguably the NFL's best quarterback during the 2024 NFL season – if not, the best – and the All-Star showcase no longer has a tackle football exhibition, which is meant to encourage stars to attend the event.

But is Jackson at the Pro Bowl in 2025? Here's what to know about the Ravens quarterback's status for the event.

Is Lamar Jackson in the Pro Bowl 2025?

Jackson is not participating in the 2025 Pro Bowl. The NFL MVP frontrunner was selected for the event for the fourth time in his seven-year career but did not travel to Orlando to take part in the festivities.

Why isn't Lamar Jackson in the Pro Bowl?

Jackson did not provide an explanation for his decision to sit out the Pro Bowl. That said, it's worth noting he was banged up during Baltimore's playoff run, as he was kneed in the back during the Ravens' 28-14 wild-card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

At the time, Jackson said he was "good" despite requiring treatment throughout the game.

"It really didn't affect me at all, to be honest with you," Jackson told reporters, per ESPN. "Just a little nag, but I'm good. Nothing to worry about."

It isn't clear whether that malady influenced Jackson's decision not to attend the Pro Bowl. The Ravens official website simply announced he would not participate and did not provide an injury update on the quarterback.

Jackson hasn't participated in the Pro Bowl since his first full year as a starter in 2019. As such, seeing him sit out the event isn't a surprise.

Who replaced Lamar Jackson at the Pro Bowl?

Jackson was replaced at the 2025 Pro Bowl by New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, according to the NFL. Maye enjoyed a solid rookie season, completing 66.6% of his passes for 2,276 yards, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while adding 421 yards and two scores on the ground for a lackluster Patriots offense.

Those numbers normally wouldn't be enough to get a quarterback into the Pro Bowl, but the AFC had many opt-outs ahead of the game. Jackson and Bills quarterback Josh Allen both chose not to participate in the game while Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes – likely the top alternate – skipped it ahead of Super Bowl 59.

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix also couldn't go to the Pro Bowl after having a minor surgical procedure, which opened the door for Maye and Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson to represent the AFC.
