Why isn't West Ham vs Aston Villa Premier League game live on TV in UK today?

West Ham and Aston Villa meet in a key Premier League clash today.

Both teams are chasing European football next season while also chasing silverware on the continent this campaign.

The Hammers qualified for the Europa League quarter-finals with a comeback win over Freiburg on Thursday night, while Villa also produced a big performance to knock Ajax out of the Conference League.

That has meant this afternoon’s match at London Stadium, which kicks off at 2pm GMT, was moved back a day from Saturday.

Originally slated for the 3pm blackout, it was not picked among a limited offering of league action this weekend as the FA Cup takes centre stage.

Tottenham’s game with Fulham last night was the sole TV pick from the top flight as West Ham vs Aston Villa was not selected for live viewing in the UK.

Fans will have to wait until 2025-26 for the rules to change, when every game not taking place on Saturday at 3pm will automatically be broadcast live.

Instead, they are being forced to settled for free highlights on the Sky Sports app and YouTube channel, which will become available shortly after full-time, with BBC’s Match of the Day 2 airing at 10.30pm.
