There will be an unusual look to the Newcastle United bench at Old Trafford this evening - and Eddie Howe will be hoping it doesn't affect his side's performance against Manchester United.

The Newcastle head coach is always seen on the touchline with his trusted No 2 Jason Tindall, but the popular coach will be missing from the picture this evening. The man affectionately known as 'Mad Dog' by the Magpies faithful will have to serve a one-match ban after being sent off in the Boxing Day win over Aston Villa.

Tindall and Villa analyst Victor Manas were shown red cards following a half-time fracas in the tunnel at St James' Park, with neither allowed to appear on the benches for the second period. The sending off has led to a one-match ban for Tindall, which means he will not be able to take his usual place alongside Howe for the game at Old Trafford.

While Howe and Tindall are a familiar sight when the TV cameras focus on the Newcastle bench, the United head coach will not be short of support and advice this evening. Howe works with a close group of coaches and will be able to call on the expertise of the likes of Graeme Jones, Stephen Purches and Simon Weatherstone.

Speaking about the incident against Villa, Howe said: "These things always start out I don't think with the intention of it happening in the way that it did.

"There was probably 17 or 18 people trying to calm it down, but what it looks like then are more people are involved. No one wants to see that, it's not at all how I want my players or staff to be, but sometimes you have to stand up to what you think is right and protect each other."
