Liverpool turned down the Premier League’s request to participate in its overseas summer tournament.

The Athletic states the Premier League’s Summer Series will take place in the USA in late July, with games to be staged in Atlanta, New Jersey and Chicago. Manchester United, Bournemouth, West Ham United and Everton are all set to take part in the competition, presuming they all maintain their Premier League status.

Bournemouth sits fifth in the table and are the only side that will feel 100 percent confident of its survival, with a 26-point gap to the relegation places. The other sides currently occupy 14th, 15th and 16th, with West Ham - the lowest ranked of those sides - only 10 points clear of the drop zone.

A separate report claims Liverpool could play in Japan and Hong Kong this summer, possibly playing in the soon-to-opened Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong. The Reds did travel to the US last year and played Real Betis, Arsenal and United.

It’s likely a decision will come soon on Liverpool’s plans for this summer, with the Reds not part of Fifa’s plans for the expanded Club World Cup despite being arguably being Europe’s best side at present.

Manchester City and Chelsea will be at the event - also held in the USA - with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Porto, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Red Bull Salzburg among the other European contingent involved in the 32-team competition.

Liverpool will hope for a less exerting summer and to start the 2025/26 feeling fresher as a result. As for the Premier League’s Summer Series, it will be the second edition of such a tournament, with the first staged in 2023 and featuring Brentford, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion.
