Why Rovers loan was the right move for 'hungry' Emmanuel Dennis
Emmanuel Dennis cannot wait to get back on the pitch and show Rovers supporters what he is all about.
The 27-year-old striker arrived at Ewood Park in the final stages of deadline day, completing a loan switch from Nottingham Forest.
Dennis did not play any competitive matches during the first half of the campaign after he was left out of Forest’s 25-man Premier League squad.
“I am very hungry. I really want to play football and hope that we are going to have great moments together,” he told RoversTV.
“I am really excited to be back (playing), I will give my all to the club and I really appreciate them bringing me here. I am going to give them everything.
“It is a good time (to join) because we are in a very good position in the table and playing good football.
“Before coming here, I analysed how they play and I like it. I hope I can add something to the team and we can have good times together.”
Dennis was inspired by fellow Nigerian Yakubu during his younger years and is now excited to wear the blue and white shirt.
“Yakubu played here and growing up, I watched him play,” he recalled. “It is a club I am very familiar with from growing up in Nigeria. I was really pleased they wanted me, I wanted to come.
“He scored a lot of goals, so many! Yakubu is really big in Nigeria and African football. His contribution, playing in the Premier League, what a guy! He inspired me in some ways because I watched games and he was a really good player.
“As a kid you want to play in England because it is all you see on TV growing up. I am used to playing in England now. I like everything about the people, they are so funny and respectful. The weather, I don’t like!”
Dennis had loan spells at Istanbul Basaksehir and Watford last season, scoring four times in the Championship for the latter.
During his first spell at Vicarage Road, the 27-year-old managed 10 goals and six assists in the Premier League despite the Hornets finishing in the bottom three.
When asked what Rovers fans can expect from his, Dennis replied: “I like to have fun, tricky, nutmegs, some excitement.
"People come to the stadium to have fun, happy moments, victories and I like to have fun, score, assist, run, dribble and just play football. I enjoy being on the pitch and if I am on it, I give energy.
"People come from their homes and sit in the cold so you have to give them something (to enjoy). When I play, I run and do whatever I need to do. If I am enjoying it and they are too, that is good.”
