England manager Thomas Tuchel will be among those watching Newcastle United's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.

The Magpies face the North London outfit in the early kick-off today as they look to push into the top four. Eddie Howe's side are currently fifth in the standings, three points behind Chelsea in fourth.

Tuchel was named as Gareth Southgate's successor in October after the former manager announced his departure following the conclusion of Euro 2024. Lee Carsley was in charge of the team on an interim basis during the Nations League campaign at the end of last year but has now returned to continue his work with the Under-21s.

The former Chelsea boss formally began his new role as England head coach at the start of this month and he will name his first squad in March ahead of the Three Lions' World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia. Until then, he will be on scouting duties, starting with Newcastle's trip to Tottenham and Sunday's blockbuster clash between Liverpool and Manchester United this weekend.

Among the players Tuchel will be keeping a close eye on is Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall. Gordon was part of Southgate's Euro 2024 squad in the summer, but the latter two received their call-ups under Carsley towards the end of last year.

It was Tuchel who handed Hall his first senior opportunity when the left back was still at Chelsea in 2022. The defender was brought into the manager's training sessions and he was handed his Chelsea first team debut in an FA Cup tie against Chesterfield in January that year.

England's World Cup qualifying group consists of Albania, Latvia, Serbia and Andorra with matches set to begin in March and conclude in November later this year. The tournament will then be held in North America in the summer of 2026.
