The January transfer window came to a close on Monday evening with Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham finally getting their man. Having looked to have missed out on the signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich last week, the Frenchman made a late U-turn to complete a move to the capital.

Tel joins Tottenham on loan for the remainder of the season with the club having a £45.7million option to buy the teenager. If Spurs do take up the option to make the move permanent, a six-year contract has been agreed for the attacker.

Rated extremely highly in the game, Tel boosts Postecoglou's attacking options for the remainder of the season and possibly beyond following a host of injuries in N17. The 19-year-old mainly operates as a left-winger but he also has plenty of experience of playing on the right-wing and as a striker.

Tottenham fans could see their new player in action as soon as Thursday against Liverpool in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final clash, providing of course that he gets international clearance and his work permit done in time. The same applies to fellow new arrival Kevin Danso, who joined from French club Lens on Sunday morning.

Following Tottenham's January business, Postecoglou and Tottenham will very soon need to submit an updated 25-man squad to the Premier League for the second half of the season. As always, clubs cannot name more than 17 non-homegrown players on the list and the remainder of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be homegrown.

All teams are also able to name players 21 and under on an Under-21 list, which frees up space in the 25-man squad in the process. For the 2024/25 campaign, Under-21 players will have had to be born on or after January 1, 2003 to make the list.

Tottenham do have space in their Premier League squad at present having submitted a 23-man list at the end of the summer market. The list comprises of 14 non-homegrown and nine homegrown players.

There is space for Tel on the non-homegrown quota but he can actually be registered on the Under-21 list for the remainder of the campaign. This is because he was born in Sarcelles on April 27, 2005, which is after the aforementioned date in regards to Under-21 player registration.

As he doesn't turn 21 years of age until 2026, Tel will be able to stay on Tottenham's Under-21 list for the next couple of seasons providing he does of course become a Spurs player on a permanent basis. The Under-21 list has proved very useful to Tottenham in the past, with fellow January signing Antonin Kinsky also able to be named on there following his transfer from Slavia Prague at the turn of the year.
