Wight Eagles Ladies progress in cup after dominant performance
Wight Eagles Ladies triumphed 5-2 in the Hampshire Trophy Cup.
The match, played against City Ladies in Portsmouth, took place on Sunday. Despite missing nine first-team players, the Eagles pulled through.
Seventeen-year-old forward Jess Green opened the scoring with a goal at the half-hour mark, assisted by Millie Tinsley.
City Ladies quickly equalised, but Green responded with her second goal, aided by Emma Webb.
As the first half progressed, Green assisted 16-year-old Sophie Lewis, who delivered a remarkable goal, making it 3-1 at half-time.
In the second half, despite a few saves by Ayisha Keyes, the Islanders maintained their dominance.
Green, continuing her fine form, completed her first senior football hat-trick. Daysi Chapman then crossed for Millie Tinsley, who scored the Eagles' fifth goal.
City Ladies managed to score another goal in the last 10 minutes, but it was not enough to change the outcome. The Eagles secured their victory and advanced to the next round of the cup.
Next, the Eagles will travel back to City Ladies for a league match on Sunday, aiming for three points to move away from the bottom two.
Jess Green and Erin Sharp were named as the players of the match.
