William Osula's unseen Newcastle United stadium moment as striker gets last laugh with Bromley giant
Newcastle United youngster William Osula enjoyed the moment he'd been praying for as Bromley came to St James' Park in the FA Cup third round. The £15million striker has not complained once about a lack of starts and has indicated he was prepared to bide his time for an opportunity in the Newcastle senior side.
On Sunday afternoon, Osula was also patient within the 69 minutes he was afforded by Eddie Howe. He'd chased everything in the first half but only managed seven or eight touches with 6ft 6in Bromley giant, and League Two player of the month, Omar Sowunmi marshalling Premier League players time after time.
But in the second half, things started to drop more for Osula, and the introduction of his big pal Bruno Guimaraes paid off handsomely. After Lewis Miley had nicked the ball again, Bruno took a look up and released Osula down the right wing with a sumptuous pass. For the first time in the game all Osula had in front of him was green grass.

Taking a touch and then pulling off a couple of step overs, the goal was now yawning, and he would smash it into the top corner with his left foot. Bruno was the first Newcastle start to greet him at the Leazes End before Blyth lad Dan Burn, an unused sub, was then on the scene to congratulate him.
Soon after, Osula went off to a warm ovation from a full house and at the 10th time of asking in a Newcastle shirt he had his first goal in the bag. Bearing in mind this was only his second start, his ratio isn't looking too bad!
After the game he took to Instagram to simply post: "First goal for NUFC. What a feeling!" But after the TV cameras had been switched off, Osula walked down the tunnel at St James' Park alone with his phone inundated with congratulatory messages.
Then with a smile he looked up at the goal he'd just scored his first ever strike in black and white colours in. It would be a day to remember. The first of many? You'd like to think so because at 21 he has time on his side.
Afterwards, Howe said: "Will’s been waiting for that moment. He has huge potential and quality."
The challenge will now be to replicate it, and for Howe to squeeze in more opportunities, not an easy task given Newcastle are in their best form for years, but also another welcome headache for the boss.
