After Williams arrival, could Carlisle United now strengthen on the left?

Mike Williamson feels he has enough strength in depth on the left – but isn’t completely ruling out another signing there.

The Carlisle United head coach added a right wing-back to his squad this week with the arrival of Josh Williams.

He appears in less of a hurry to bolster things on the other side of the pitch despite the departure of certain players in that department.

But Williamson stressed United would be ready to move if someone became available who it was felt could enhance their options.

The Blues boss fielded Jordan Jones at left wing-back against Bradford City last weekend, with Cameron Harper another option in the squad.

Ben Williams recently left the club with another left-sided player in Jack Robinson also appearing to be on his way out.

Asked if left wing-back was a position he might yet look at in the transfer window, Williamson said: “If something comes up.

“For  me the business that we've done has been fantastic – we're really, really pleased and really grateful to the owners for that.

“We've obviously got JJ [Jones], we've got Cammy [Harper], and Wearnie [Stephen Wearne] can do a job in wing-back areas – he's played there quite a lot for us [at previous clubs].

“So I feel like we have got strength in depth there.

“But that's not to say that if something remarkably similar to Josh came up then we wouldn't move on that.”

United have made ten new signings this month, and all ten could be in the squad to face Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Williams, who joined from Birmingham City, is in line for his debut, as is Paul Dummett, the defender who is available to face Fleetwood after missing last weekend’s defeat after being involved in a car accident the previous day.

Also in line for further involvement are fellow new boys Callum Whelan, Elliot Embleton, Joe Hugill, Charlie McArthur, Cedwyn Scott, Sean Fusire, Will Patching and Wearne.
