Williams calls on Swansea to embrace romance of FA Cup against Saints
SWANSEA City boss Luke Willams called on his players to embrace the "romance" of an FA Cup tie against Southampton.
Williams, who previously worked as Russell Martin's assistant, insisted this afternoon's cup clash at St Mary's is "for the fans".
Swansea will look to improve on their last trip to Hampshire, which ended with a 4-0 defeat to Portsmouth earlier this month.
Previewing the game, Williams said: “We have to remember that the cup, like all games, is about the fans. It’s an opportunity for some romance and glory.
“It’s a change of pace from the league fixtures and a game against a team who we would not ordinarily get to play against.
“I know that Southampton were in the Championship last season but we hope that we can make something exciting for the fans.
“I repeat, that’s what it’s about. There are league and cup games for a reason, to spice things up and give the fans more experiences.
“That’s entirely what it’s all about and we are lucky enough to go and play the game."
Swansea will be without Welsh international Ben Cabango despite the defender sleeping in an oxygen tent in a bid for fitness.
"We don't have any new injuries," Williams explained. "We have a fairly fit squad and we've had time to recover. We will be showing respect to the competition for sure."
