Former Leeds United forward Georginio Rutter has superbly shut down a question over whether he would sign for Manchester United.

The 22-year-old was on target for Brighton & Hove Albion as they inflicted misery on the Old Trafford club in a 3-1 win as Ruben Amorim suffered his latest defeat in charge.

Rutter left Elland Road to join the Seagulls in a £40million deal which was a club-record for the Amex Stadium club. Despite leaving Leeds, it is clear that he hasn't forgotten his roots nor has the rivalry between the two clubs left him since leaving West Yorkshire in the summer.

While playing video game Fortnite, the forward was asked whether he would join Manchester United - days after piling on the disappointment at the Theatre of Dreams - the reply was clear as day.

He was asked: "Would you like to come to Manchester United?" And the Frenchman simply replied: "No," while shaking his head.

The 22-year-old was also a club-record arrival at Elland Road as he made the move from Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim in 2023, signing on a five-and-a-half year deal. He failed to score in 11 appearances as United returned to the Championship but he improved in his first full season scoring six goals in 45 appearances.

Leeds made every effort to keep the Frenchman within the West Yorkshire ranks but couldn't persuade him to stay after Brighton triggered his buyout clause. His final match was the League Cup tie against Middlesbrough after making one Championship appearance against Portsmouth.

His effort at Old Trafford on Sunday was his fourth of the league campaign. After the game, he uploaded a post to social media platform Instagram celebrating the victory, writing "In French we say INCROYABLE !!"

Rutter's old team-mate at Leeds, Wilfried Gnonto, responded to the post with merci, which is French for 'thanks' with a red heart and praying emoji.

Gnonto himself has been the subject of intense scrutiny around his future at Leeds, but he looks set to stay put this window.
