Who they're for: Golfers who shoot in the mid-80s and 90s and want more forgiveness, ball speed and height (Dynapwr), and golfers who shoot in the high 90s and 100s who need to maximize forgiveness and gain height on their shots (Dynapwr Max).
What you should know: The second generation of Dynapwr irons are game-improvement clubs designed to inspire confidence at address while delivering more ball speed thanks to a hollow-body design. The Dynapwr Max is a larger, more forgiving, max game-improvement club.
The deep dive: For the past two seasons, Wilson has focused on making some of the most well-regarded irons for low-handicap golfers, such as the Staff Model Blade and CB, Staff Model ZM wedges and the Staff Model RB Utility iron. These offerings blend classic looks with feel-optimizing performance for players who might contend at their club championship, play college golf or compete in regional tournaments. You know, “sticks.”
Two years ago, Wilson released the first Dynapwr irons – game-improvement clubs designed to look like a better-player’s iron while being easier to hit. For 2025, Wilson is offering two new Dynapwr irons, broadening its reach to a wider range of recreational players.
Dynapwr irons
The standard Dynapwr irons feature a hollow-body construction that allows a newly designed variable-thickness face to flex more efficiently at impact. This generates more ball speed and protects ball speed and distance on off-center hits.
The face plate is designed like a cup, wrapping into the topline as well as around the leading edge and into the sole. This broadens the ideal hitting area and improves performance, especially on low-struck shots.
An internal structure that Wilson calls the Energy Transfer Chassis keeps the body of the club more rigid, so energy generated by a player’s swing goes into the shot instead of being wasted in head deformation.
Dynapwr Max irons
As the name suggests, the Dynapwr Max irons are a bigger, more forgiving version of the standard Dynapwr iron. The Max has a thicker topline, more offset and a wider sole. On the back of the heads, more mass concentrated in the low heel and toe areas.
As with the standard Dynapwr irons, the Max irons are hollow to allow the cup faces to flex more efficiently. However, their larger size pushes more weight to the perimeter of the heads, making them more stable on mis-hits. They also feature a lower center of gravity, which encourages a higher launch angle.
While many max game-improvement irons feature strong lofts, Wilson made the lofts in the Dynapwr Max irons weaker by 1.5 to 2 degrees compared to the standard Dynapwr. The Max’s 5-iron is lofted at 24 degrees, the 9-iron at 39 degrees and the pitching wedge at 44 degrees. The extra loft, combined with the low-and-back center of gravity, should help golfers who struggle to launch shots high get the ball airborne more easily and bring iron shots in with more stopping power.
