REMI Wilton has left York Valkyrie to join Betfred Women’s Super League rivals Wigan Warriors for 2025.

The former Canberra Raiders captain first linked up with Lindsay Anfield’s side in April, going on to make her debut off the bench against Barrow Raiders later that month.

She enjoyed a run of games at both hooker and half-back during the summer months and scored in back-to-back matches against St Helens and Warrington Wolves in July and August.

An unused interchange during the Valkyrie’s historic Grand Final win, her last appearance for the club came in an unfamiliar role on the wing in their play-off semi-final win at Leeds Rhinos.

However, with Georgie Dagger taking on an unprecedented dual role at full-back and hooker during the latter part of the campaign and captain Sinead Peach - who played almost every minute of the 2023 season – set to return after the birth of her son, game time would likely be limited for Wilton at York in 2025.

“I can’t wait to play in the Wigan colours,” enthused the Australian utility.

“After an exciting end to 2024 with York it’ll be great to build into the 2025 season with Wigan and hopefully have a similar outcome.

“The club as a whole has been really welcoming so it’s been a super easy transition – this feels like where I’m meant to be.”

Wilton’s signing is a statement of intent for a much-improved Wigan side, who turned over York at the LNER Community Stadium on their way to a fourth-place finish last time out.

Under head coach Denis Betts, they are beginning to strike the right blend of youth and experience as they look to close the gap to York, St Helens and Leeds and secure a play-off berth again this year.

She arrives at the Warriors alongside second-rower Emily Veivers, who joins from BMD Premiership side Norths Devils.

Betts said of the pair’s signings: “It is great to welcome Remi and Emily to the Warriors, it shows the ambition of the club to pursue players of this standard.

“We look forward to seeing both girls thrive in a Betfred Women’s Super League which is getting better each year.

“The need for the club to grow and the competition to get stronger is the thought process behind adding girls with this experience to a young and talented group.

“2025 is looking like it’ll be an exciting year for Women’s Rugby League.”
