Who will win Celtic vs Young Boys? Our writers deliver their predictions for Champions League showdown

It's a massive Champions League night under the lights as Celtic look to reach that magic points tally.

Brendan Rodgers' men face bottom of the table Young Boys at Parkhead looking to move onto 12 points – a total that should see them through to the knockout stages of Europe's top tier competition with one game to spare. The Swiss side arrive in Glasgow having lost six from six and with a goal difference of -19 after shipping 22 goals and scoring just three so far. Celtic are 21st currently and can take a major leap up the standings with three points.

It's a Battle of Britain clash with Aston Villa on the road on matchday eight next midweek but all focus will be on this one as the Hoops look to show a clinical edge and get that victory to take pressure off the trip to Villa Park next Wednesday night. Record Sport's top team have their say when it comes to the outcome of the big showdown.

Celtic have been strong at home during the league phase with seven points from nine and can continue their sequence with a victory. Young Boys will be dangerous with a freedom to play, but the hosts know the importance of success and will prove too strong and motivated.

Young Boys might have a go as they have nothing to lose, and that could open the game up. Celtic have the firepower to hurt them and an early goal could knock the stuffing out of the Swiss. It might be a wild night but the Hoops should see it through.

Celtic could not have hand picked a better fixture to get them over the line and into the play-offs. Sitting in 36th place out of 36, with no points from six games and 22 goals conceded, this campaign has been an ordeal that Young Boys would rather forget all about. A packed Parkhead doesn’t feel like a particularly safe place for the Swiss to make their next stop.

The Hoops haven’t hit the heights of the sensational RB Leipzig night since that epic night against the Germans but they have still got themselves into a fantastic position and it’s all there for them against the rock bottom side. It might be nervy at times but they will have too much for the struggling Swiss.

A win for Celtic will end a 12-year wait for knockout football in the Champions League but they may have to borrow from the old playbook to do it. The Swiss can’t buy a win but the stakes are high. How about an old style late winner to signal true growth of a new era under Brendan Rodgers.

Whipping boys in the Champions League and not faring much better in the Swiss Super League, Young Boys should be there for the taking if Celtic can find their A-game. The visitors have conceded more goals than anyone else in six games and scored just three. This is all about Celtic hitting top gear to secure that play-off spot.
