Who will win Man Utd vs Rangers? Our writers deliver their predictions for the Europa League blockbuster
There was a time when Manchester United and Rangers were the undisputed top dogs in their respective leagues. A pair of footballing behemoths, in fact.
But the two British giants have had their struggles in recent seasons – and that’s putting it lightly. Also, we say "recent" but you could easily instead say for "years". Anyway, that doesn't make their clash at Old Trafford on Thursday night any less mouthwatering as they go head to head in the penultimate round of league phase fixtures. This is a Battle of Britain royale all right and the eyes of the world will be on Old Trafford.
They have met twice before competitively and both times it was in the Champions League but now they clash in UEFA’s second tier competition. Record Sport's top team have their say when it comes to the outcome of the big showdown. Remember, it’s only our opinions!

Rangers are missing some key players but they can still cause a broken United side problems. Philippe Clement’s side have proved they’re adept at hitting teams on the counter attack away from home in Europe this season. And United’s form tells you they’ll give up chances. Hamza Igamane could be Gers’ star again as they collect another crucial point on the road.

Rangers will miss suspended Mo Diomande’s legs in midfield but should still carry enough threat to trouble Ruben Amorim’s ropey Red Devils. If Sam Lammers can score at OldT Trafford you haven’t fancy his former Gets team to do the same.

Having scalped Nice in the south of France and pushed Spurs to the brink at Ibrox, there is no reason for Rangers to feel overwhelmed when they run out at the home of Manchester United. In fact, it’s United’s pampered players who will be feeling the strain this time around given their wretched home form and a scathing assessment from their own under-fire manager.
And yet, despite the dramatic extent of Ruben Amorim’s teething troubles at Old Trafford, a share of the spoils would constitute a terrific result for Philippe Clement and his men - even if they might firmly believe they can go one better.

Ruben Amorim claimed this could be the worst Manchester United team ever. I am not convinced, I have seen worse. It is still a massively tall order for Rangers. They have done well in this competition but I still think United will have enough to edge it, although it could well be a nervy night for the Premier League side.

Oddsmakers don’t fancy Rangers much but logic suggests Philippe Clement’s men have every chance of decking a Manchester United side whose own boss doesn’t believe in them. The Light Blues love to win away from home in the Europa League and can do so again. Red-hot Hamza Igamane is primed to enhance his burgeoning reputation.

It’s either going to be the best or the worst time to face Man Utd after their own gaffer took a flame thrower to the squad at the weekend. Rangers are at their most dangerous when underdogs who can hit on the counter attack. This could be a wild night and the Ibrox men can pick up a superb point.
