Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has said he wants to keep Joshua Zirkzee at Old Trafford in this month's transfer window - but admits that nothing can be ruled out.

Zirkzee, who joined United from Bologna last July in a deal worth €42.5million, has been heavily linked with a return to Italy in recent weeks amid his struggles to make his mark in the Premier League.

The Netherlands international, 23, was booed off the pitch by some United fans after being substituted in the first half of last Monday night's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at Old Trafford. He was replaced by Kobbie Mainoo with just 33 minutes played.

Zirkzee was dropped to the bench for Sunday's trip to Liverpool but was sent on in the second half as United's away supporters chanted his name in a show of support. He then thought he had provided the assist for Harry Maguire to score a dramatic winner but the defender blazed his effort over the bar.

Despite ongoing speculation linking him with Juventus, Amorim has confirmed that he wants to keep the former Bayern Munich man at Old Trafford.

"I want to keep Josh because he gives everything," Amorim told talkSport. "He's trying in training but we don't know, the window is open.

"We will see what happens. We just need to focus on training and to take this for the next game. So it's just one point. Let's focus on the performance, take this to the next game."

Since joining United, Zirkzee has made 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals. His most recent strike was in the 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup just before Christmas.
