Coventry City are being linked with a January move for Nigerian wing-back Ahmad Ghali - but face reported competition for his signature from Ipswich Town and in Italy.

The 24-year-old plays for Czech club Slovan Liberec and has made 19 appearances mainly at right wing-back this season. But the Africa Foot website via Sport Witness claims Ghali, who can also operate as a winger, is being courted by clubs in both England and Italy - with the Sky Blues amongst them. Serie A outfit AC Monza are also said to be in the mix.

New boss Frank Lampard is yet to make his first signing for the club yet, and it remains unclear what, if any, deals are in the offing as Coventry owner Doug King is notoriously secretive over potential transfers.

However, the Africa Foot report claims both top-flight Ipswich and the Sky Blues “would consider recruiting” him in this window. There is no mention of a fee, but Transfermarkt values Ghali at €850,000, a sum well within reach of Lampard and Co.

Sport Witness adds Ghali has been with Slovan Liberec since 2022 and has a deal that runs to 2027 after signing an extension last summer, but that both club and player are willing to listen to offers.

Asked recently if he knew what areas of the team he’d like to strengthen and how many new faces he’d like to add, Lampard told CoventryLive: “Yes to positions but not in terms of a number. There are certain areas of the team, for example at the minute we’ve got wingers injured, so it looks like an area where we’re short. If we can help the squad, we’ll try to.”
