Session One - First round matches - Thursday 7pm
Josh Rock v Jermaine Wattimena
The Northern Irish kid signalled a return to form with a good run at the Ally Pally before going out at the hands of Chris Dobey. Wattimena was the highest-ranked player to progress from the qualifiers after following up straight-set wins over Nathan Girvan and Niels Zonneveld with a comeback win against Nick Kenny.
Damon Heta v Ross Smith
The Aussie, seeded eight, missed out on the Premier League selections despite smashing a nine-darter at the World Championships at Ally Pally in his loss to Luke Woodhouse. Smudger suffered disappointment in the big one when he was hammered early by Paulo Nebrida. Both players hunting a run here in MK.
Rob Cross v Willie O’Connor
The World No.4 recovered from a horror early exit at both the Worlds and the opening World Series event in Bahrain to take last weekend’s Dutch Darts Masters with a rapid return to form. O’Connor dispatched Richard Veenstra in convincing style to book a tussle against the former World Champion.
Gerwyn Price v Florian Hempel
The Iceman has started the year with plenty of promise having made the quarters of the Worlds and semis of World Series in Holland, as well as the Final in Bahrain. Hempel will make his World Masters debut following his straight-sets success against his fellow countryman Gabriel Clemens, having averaged 110 in his last 64 victory over Mensur Suljovic.
Peter Wright v Kevin Doets
Snakebite is out of the Premier League and concentrating efforts on ranking titles this year. He made the quarters at Ally Pally and is threatening a return to top form.
Dutchman Doets also won through Wednesday’s Preliminary Rounds overcoming Andy Boulton, Radek Szaganski and Dylan Slevin to set up a showdown against the two-time World Champion.
Luke Humphries v Joe Cullen
Humphries is aiming to get back on track having lost before the Final in each of the two World Series events which have backed up the loss of the World crown. Cullen is a dangerous opponent and looked to be a good form at the Worlds as he lost an epic encounter against Gerwyn Price.
Stephen Bunting v Willie Borland
Bunting has started the season in flying form and just failed to go back-to-back in the World Series when losing the Final in Den Bosch to Cross. Scotsman Borland claimed the scalps of Dirk van Duijvenbode, Alan Soutar and Mickey Mansell to confirm his big stage return.
Danny Noppert v Michael Smith
Ex-Lakeside champion Noppert was hammered at the Worlds by eventual quarter-finalist Ryan Joyce and lost last week to Price, but he won the 2022 UK Open and remains a permanent fixture in the Top 16 of the PDC rankings. Smith needs to regain his best form and fast having fallen down the rankings with his shock Worlds exit at the first hurdle to Kevin Doets.
