WARRINGTON Wolves’ preparations for the new Women’s Super League season have stepped up a gear.

The players are back in pre-season training and now, new head coach Ged Ginty has revealed a new on-field leadership duo.

Warrington-born hooker Dani Bound has been confirmed as the team’s captain having served as vice-captain under first Michelle Davis and then Katie May Williams, with half-back Charlie Magraw now taking on the vice-captaincy role.

“It’s quite a big deal,” said Bound, who represented England at the 2013 and 2017 Rugby League World Cups.

“I enjoy playing for Warrington – I’ve been vice-captain now for quite a few years now so I feel it’s my time to step up and lead the team.

“I started at Warrington and now I’ll end at Warrington as well.”

Magraw added: “Last year, I was picked to be vice-captain when captains weren’t there for whatever reason, but I just feel privileged.

“When Ged phoned me and told me, I really wasn’t expecting it but it’s a massive achievement for both of us.”

The Wire are currently preparing for their third season in the women’s top flight, which gets underway with a home game against Huddersfield Giants at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday, May 18.

First, however, they will feature in the group stages of the Women’s Challenge Cup, the draw for which will be made this evening alongside the men’s third-round draw.

And after a bit of deliberation, Ginty – the man who has taken over from Armani Sharrock as the team’s head coach – believes he has the right duo to lead the players into the new season.

“They compliment each other,” he said.

“With Dani being a nine and Charlie being a half-back on the field, they connect but they connect off the field as well. We’re trying to build that true connection throughout the team.

“It was a tough decision because there are other leaders in the team, which is what we need. That’s why we’ve created a good leadership team around them.

“Dani and Charlie stand out for what they believe in and they really do have Warrington at heart.”
