Newcastle United's in-form striker Alexander Isak would consider a move to Manchester United if the Reds tried to sign him in the January transfer window, according to former United forward Teddy Sheringham

Isak is arguably the most in-form forward in the Premier League at the moment and has scored in each of his last eight matches for the Magpies.

His goal in Tuesday's 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final win over Arsenal took his tally to 15 goals this season, following on from his 25-goal haul last term.

Given Newcastle paid £64million to sign him from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022, only a huge bid for the 25-year-old would tempt Eddie Howe's side to consider a sale - especially given he is under contract at St James' Park until the summer of 2028.

Nonetheless, Sheringham feels his former side should test the waters this month and feels he would prove to be a 'statement signing' for Ruben Amorim.

"Manchester United is still a massive draw for any player and playing for the club is still a highlight of anyone’s career," Sheringham told BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League odds.

"Would Alexander Isak consider joining United if a bid came in? Without a doubt. I’m not saying a deal will get done but he would be the perfect signing for United.

"He can lead the line and score goals and could be a statement signing for the new regime. He is full of confidence at the moment and could lead by example."

After Newcastle's win at the Emirates Stadium, Magpies winger Anthony Gordon was asked whether, on current form, Isak is the best forward in Europe.

"Very good. He is the best in Europe, probably right now, with the form he's in," Gordon told BBC Radio 5Live.

"The best quality he's got is that he's so humble. He is not scared to pass the ball. He's very unselfish, and his best ability is his raw ability on the ball."
