Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has made it clear that he's looking to bolster his squad in the January transfer window as they gear up for their Premier League clash against Chelsea on Monday night. Following a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle earlier in the week, Pereira is keen to inject more quality into the team to help them avoid relegation.

So far, the only new face at Molineux this month is defender Emmanuel Agbadou, who joined from French outfit Stade Reims and featured in the loss at St James' Park.

Amidst uncertainty surrounding the future of ex-skipper Mario Lemina, despite his recent apology for missing the Newcastle match, Pereira didn't mince words about his transfer plans. In a press conference, he said: "We are doing our work and I hope that before the market closes we can receive one or two players, at least."

He added, "We know to be more comfortable for this fight, a difficult fight which we will face, we need at least two more players, in my opinion."

Emphasising the need for reinforcements, he continued, "We need more solutions to help. I’m very happy with the team and with the players that I have but I think we need more solutions in midfield and maybe another defender."

Pereira also mentioned the club's approach to the transfer market, stating, "We are trying to understand the market and the opportunities in the market depends on what we find. If we find the right players to bring in then ok, if not it’s better not to bring them in."

On the player front, there are concerns over Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha, who came off the bench in the Newcastle game after serving a suspension but missed training on Friday due to flu symptoms.

The gaffer is mulling over whether to give Lemina another shot after recently casting doubt on the player's dedication. On the flip side, Santiago Bueno remains upbeat about his team's prospects despite a tough run of games ahead, including clashes with top-tier sides Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa.

Bueno, who has been a mainstay since Pereira took over from Gary O’Neil, shared: "There are no easy opponents in the Premier League – all of the teams are strong with their weapons and obviously playing against six of the top teams will be an even bigger challenge for us."

"But I think the team is well prepared for this. We played a good game against (Manchester) United at home, again, we were strong in both penalty areas, so we’ll have to keep up the effort to play a good game."
