THE NEW manager of Wolverhampton Wanders, Vitor Pereira, made a last minute trip to a local pub for his Christmas Dinner.

The football club made an 11th hour phone call on Christmas Eve to The Fox at Shipley, near Wolverhampton, asking if they could squeeze the Portuguese football manager and his backroom staff in for a table on Christmas Day.

Kerry Brummell, who owns The Fox, said she “obviously could not refuse” when she got the call, even though the pub was fully booked.

She said: “We were fully booked and I had no idea where I was going to put them, but after 17 years at the Fox I’m good at juggling things about in a hurry and I did it.”

Ms Brummell said Pereira happily took photos with fans who recognised him and that neither he nor his staff could believe their eyes when the food was brought out.

“When the first one came out, they thought it was to share and then when the others arrived the words ‘Momma Mia’ were heard!

“They enjoyed the Yorkshire pudding for the first time, and cranberry sauce, and looked rather full afterwards.

“They even pulled a cracker!!”

Pereira was appointed the new manager at Wolves earlier this month on December 19, after the sacking of former head coach Garry O’Neil.

Wolves currently sit in 17th place in the Premier League, hovering above the relegation zone.

However, the team have enjoyed a perfect run since Pereira took over the reins, beating Leicester City 3-0 last Sunday and enjoying a spectacular 2-0 win over Manchester United on Boxing Day.

Ms Brummell said Pereira and his staff would be welcome back to the pub anytime.
