Workington Reds and Carlisle City return to winning ways
Workington Reds returned to winning ways with an impressive home win against Matlock Town.
Mark Fell's side claimed a 4-2 victory to end a run of six games without a win in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Goals from Kai Nugent and Jordan Little saw Reds open up an early two-goal lead, and after Jake Thompson pulled one back, Tom Stephenson restored the hosts' two-goal advantage early in the second half.
Sam Essien replied for 14th-placed Matlock but Ruben Grewal, who recently returned to the squad, made the points safe.
The victory in front of 803 fans, sees Workington 16th in the table. Next up for Reds is their Fred Conway Cumberland Cup quarter-final at Carlisle City on Tuesday before Fell's side go to Whitby Town in the league next Saturday.
Carlisle City themselves had a good day in Northern League Division One as they claimed a 3-2 win at Boro Rangers.
Dan Kirkup's side toppled the fourth-placed hosts thanks to goals from Kieron Blair and a Romeo Park double.
City are 16th ahead of their midweek cup clash with Workington and next weekend's league clash at home to Northallerton Town.
Penrith, though, came unstuck at home to Whickham with a 3-1 defeat.
Dan Hopper's third goal in his Carlisle United loan spell for the Bonny Blues cancelled out Mason Hardy's opener, but two more goals for the visitors consigned the hosts to defeat.
Penrith are 14th, while Kendal Town remain Cumbria's highest-placed Northern League side in eighth despite their trip to Newcastle Blue Star being postponed because of a frozen pitch.
