Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has outlined a key strength which makes Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney great owners to work for.

The 57-year-old marked his 1,000th game in football management at the weekend with yet another dramatic late victory.

An 87th minute header from veteran striker Steven Fletcher secured a 1-0 win over Peterborough United at the Racecourse Ground.

Parkinson has achieved huge success since joining the club in July 2021, taking the north Wales outfit from the National League to League One.

Saturday's result keeps Wrexham in contention for an incredible third successive promotion, aided by a significant financial investment from the owners.

However, Parkinson believes it's the level of trust the two actors have placed in him which has ultimately helped their meteoric rise up the leagues.

Speaking after the game, he told CBS Sports Golazo: “Rob and Ryan are great at what they do and the great thing is that they're very supportive and that they leave me and the staff to get on with our job.

“They’re absolutely brilliant at that. They always want to be informed, but they’re great and entrust us with our job.

“They've got a great passion for this football club, and they're very determined to do what they set out to do right from the start.

“So far, it's been a great journey and given a lift to the area. You have to be here to understand how passionate these supporters are, and how everybody in the town is just walking around that little bit taller because of what's happening to the football team.”

Wrexham's Hollywood takeover has drawn global attention to the club, attracting A-list celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Will Ferrell and Channing Tatum to their games.

There have also been other perks for the team's players, with star striker Paul Mullin making a cameo alongside Reynolds in last year's Deadpool & Wolverine blockbuster.

Parkinson himself has also become a household name after his passionate team talks were featured prominently in the Welcome to Wrexham documentary.

However, he stressed the importance of striking the right balance between achieving stardom and winning football matches.

Parkinson said: “It’s absolutely key that we enjoy the exposure the individuals get within the group and the club, but make sure we understand that every time we cross that white line, we're representing a real working class town.

“We’ve got to make sure that we run hard every game, and we play with a real fire and determination to get the results.

“We can't always win but as long as we come off the pitch and we've represented the area the right way, I'm always happy.”
