Wycombe boss Bloomfield not writing off Aaron Morley return in January window
WYCOMBE boss Matt Bloomfield has not given up hope of bringing Aaron Morley back to the club in the January window.
Bolton turned down an offer from the Chairboys to renew the 24-year-old’s loan on higher terms in the second half of the window and have indicated that they are only prepared to let him leave on a permanent basis, at their price.
Morley signed off for the meantime at Adams Park with a dramatic 90th minute winner from the penalty spot against Exeter City – and will now be in the Wanderers squad set to play the same opposition this weekend.
Asked of the chances of bringing Morley back, Bloomfield told the Bucks Free Press: “The club knows my feelings on it, but at this time, I don’t know.
“I know we have made another effort to retain him [which was rejected], and if there is a way of keeping him, then I’m sure we’ll explore it.”
Morley has made 23 appearances for Wycombe, helping the club become the surprise package of League One this season, spending the majority of their time in the automatic promotion spots.
Bloomfield feels the former Rochdale man has progressed during his time in Buckinghamshire.
“He’s low maintenance, he gets on with his job, was on it in training and cares about his club,” he said.
“He felt at home which is hard to do when you’re on loan, so thank you to Bolton for loaning him us, and thank you to Aaron for the way he has conducted himself.
“He has improved a lot in the time he has been here and is going back a better player.”
Morley played for Bolton in the League Cup against Mansfield earlier this season, so cannot move to any other club in the next transfer window other than Wycombe.
Negotiations on a permanent deal are likely to continue throughout the month but in the short term, Ian Evatt has signalled that he will be registered and used as part of the first team squad.
Bloomfield gave Morley a glowing recommendation after seeing him steal the headlines on New Year’s Day.
“It’s very disappointing that Aaron is returning to Bolton but he has been an absolute pleasure to have with us,” he said.
“I’m not just talking about his passing – he trains properly every day, he’s low maintenance, he gets on with his work, he integrated into our team very well, and the boys welcomed in.
“He has conducted himself very well and he has been a pleasure to have.
“We saw that there were a couple of bits that he needed to improve on, and he has taken the information with respect and he’s tried to improve.
“For him to get the winner in front of the terrace was a special moment.”
