Wycombe cruise to ANOTHER victory as Wanderers defeat Stevenage
Wycombe Wanderers made it 19 league games unbeaten as they cruised to an easy 3-0 away victory at Stevenage.
A first-half brace from Richard Kone and a Beryly Lubala header secured all three points for the Chairboys, as they remain in the automatic places, four points clear of the play-offs.
Matt Bloomfield’s team started quickly out of the traps and took the lead through a brilliant strike through the Ivorian on eight minutes.
A terrible mistake by Boro captain Carl Piergianni saw him give the ball to Cameron Humphreys.
The on-loan Ipswich Town man was then clattered into by the error-laden centre back, but his pass found Kone who took a couple of touches and smashed it beyond Taye Ashbey-Hammond.
It was goal number 13 for the 21-year-old forward.
Wycombe continued to dominate throughout the opening exchanges as Luke Leahy’s header went wide, whilst Lubala and Fred Onyedinma also went close.
The hosts looked good on the ball for spells but didn’t test Franco Ravizzoli in the Wanderers goal, before the Chairboys got their second just before half-time in terrific fashion.
A mistake by Ashbey-Hammond saw his tame and low kick go straight to Kone, who lobbed the keeper from roughly 30 yards.
It was the perfect way to end the half, as Wanderers looked in cruise control.
Stevenage began the second period in Wanderers’ faces as they hit the crossbar through Tyrece Simpson, but this was as good as it got for the Boro, as Wycombe toyed with the Hertfordshire-based team.
Aaron Morley’s free-kick just went over the crossbar, before another mistake by Piergianni put Kone through, but his low shot was pushed away by Ashbey-Hammond.
However, from the resulting corner, Humphreys’ delivery was headed in by Lubala who scored his 10th goal in 20 games this season.
It could have been four when the away side won a penalty after Luke Leahy was tripped, but Kone was denied his second hat-trick of the season after Ashbey-Hammond got down to his right and pushed it away.
The result is Wanderers’ first at Stevenage in the league for just over a decade (August 2014).
They move onto 47 points, and have scored 46 times in the league – the most out of any team in the division.
Finally, Wycombe have scored two or more goals in 21 of their 30 matches in all competitions this season.
Up next is Charlton Athletic away on December 29.
Attendance: 4,430 (875).
