Wycombe set to smash transfer record as Danish midfielder is expected to sign
Wycombe Wanderers are expected to complete the signing of Danish midfielder Magnus Westergaard for a club-record fee.
According to Nordic outlet Tipsbladet, the Chairboys look set to secure the services of the 26-year-old from Viborg.
The transfer is set to be the Adams Park side’s most expensive signing in their history, eclipsing the sum they spent on fellow Danish national Anders Hagelskjær earlier this month.
Westergaard is expected to join in the coming days after passing a medical, with the completion of a work permit being the final hurdle to jump.
He is expected to replace the recently departed Aaron Morley, who has since returned to his parent club Bolton Wanderers after a brilliant five months in Buckinghamshire.
The 24-year-old played 23 times for the Chairboys between September and New Year’s Day, scoring twice.
His second and last goal for the club came in his final appearance, which was a last-minute penalty against Exeter City on January 1.
Wycombe had been in talks with Bolton to try and bring Morley back to Adams Park, but have since had two bids rejected by the former Premier League side.
This has forced Wanderers to look elsewhere for a box-to-box midfielder, leading to the signing of Westergaard who is expected to wear the number 28 shirt, which was last worn by Morley.
Up next for the Chairboys, who are now managerless following the sudden exit of manager Matt Bloomfield to Luton Town, is an away trip to Mansfield on Saturday.
Development coach Sam Grace will take interim charge.
