Wycombe Wanderers have appointed former Sunderland coach Mike Dodds as their new manager following Matt Bloomfield's move to Luton Town.

The Chairboys are defying the odds and currently sit second in League One, ahead of the likes of Wrexham and Huddersfield Town, trailing on Birmingham City heading into the final three months of the season.

'Mr Wycombe', Bloomfield, opted to move to Championship strugglers Luton last month and is yet to win at Kenilworth Road.

The Chairboys had been under the management of coach Sam Grace, but Dodds arrives from Wearside on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Having previously worked at Coventry City and Birmingham City, Dodds' use of data was a drawing point for the Wycombe board moving forward.

Dodds will begin working with the squad on Thursday and Friday, leading into Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Preston North End.

Grace, Sam Vokes and the interim coaching staff will continue to oversee preparations in the immediate short-term and Dodds' incoming coaching staff are yet to be announced.

Wycombe visit the SCL Stadium for the Berks-Bucks clash in April.
