Wycombe Wanderers face away trip in the FA Cup as opponents are confirmed
Wycombe Wanderers will play either Preston North End or Charlton Athletic in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The Chairboys progressed into the next round of the world’s oldest football competition after they defeated Portsmouth in the third round on January 10.
It is their first appearance at this stage of the cup since losing to Tottenham Hotspur four years.
Their opponents’ match had been due to take place one day after they beat Pompey 2-0 at Adams Park, but following an incredibly cold start to the month, the tie at Deepdale was postponed.
The rearranged game between North End and the Addicks will take place on January 14, with the fourth round ties being played on the weekend of February 8/9.
This will mean Wycombe’s home game against Bristol Rovers, which is due for the same weekend, will be moved.
Wanderers have never played Charlton in the FA Cup, whilst the Chairboys have faced North End on three occasions in the competition.
The first was in the 2013/14 season which Preston won 1-0 at Adams Park.
They then thrashed Wycombe four years later by a 5-1 scoreline at the same location.
The most recent encounter was in the 2020/21 campaign, which saw Wanderers win 4-1 at Adams Park.
