Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Matt Butcher is expected to leave the club this month.

It has been reported that the 27-year-old will join League One rivals Bristol Rovers on loan ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

Several outlets have suggested that Butcher is in ‘advanced talks’ with the Pirates, as he has struggled for consistent game time at Adams Park this season.

He has played 23 times but has only completed 90 minutes on nine occasions – most of these have come in cup competitions.

Butcher joined Wanderers from Plymouth Argyle 12 months ago and immediately went straight into the team.

His contributions played a huge part in Wanderers’ rise up the table, as he also scored four goals at the back end of last season.

One was in the EFL Trophy semi-final against Bradford City, with his low strike coming in the last minute to secure a 1-0 victory at Valley Parade.

This cemented the Chairboys’ place in the final for the first time.

His other strikes came against Northampton Town (where he scored a brace) and Portsmouth in March 2024.

Both games took place at Adams Park.
