Manchester City's January transfer window is close to yielding three deals at a cost of more than £100million.

But it's a window focused more on the future than the present with teenage defender Vitor Reis very much a long-term signing while fellow centre back Abdukodir Khusanov is just 20 and can not be expected to hit the ground running. Omar Marmoush is the most experienced of the expected new arrivals but even he has fewer than 150 games in a European top flight league under his belt.

Marmoush would add competition for Erling Haaland up front, something City have been missing since allowing Julian Alvarez to join Atletico Madrid in the summer. And while the Egypt international has enjoyed a stellar season in Germany, one striking solution could be right under City's noses.

Yoane Wissa scored for Brentford against the Blues on Tuesday night and has been an impressive performer for Thomas Frank's side this season. The striker is a target for Arsenal while Nottingham Forest are emerging as potential suitors of the DR Congo international. He has 37 Premier League goals under his belt - including two against City this term - and could be set for a move away from the Bees.

He has bagged 12 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions for Brentford so far this season having joined the club from French outfit Lorient in 2021 for a reported £8.5 million.

Any fee for the frontman would be significantly higher now given his proven Premier League pedigree but at 28 he is in his peak and offers an ability to link play, provide a running threat and most importantly score goals.

Arsenal's interest stems from their desperate need to invest in a centre forward while Forest will hope to capitalise on their surprise season and secure Wissa's services. But neither club can offer what City can on and off the pitch and the French-born forward has the skillset to provide a Haaland alternative.

He's another glowing reference in Brentford's impressive recruitment strategy and in the words of his current manager, is an unbelievable striker who ranks among the best in the top flight.

“I think Wissa has been an absolutely fantastic signing. I think we signed him for €8million, something like that it’s incredible," said Frank, speaking earlier this season.

“Thirty goals in the Premier League over less than three-and-a-half seasons, not many clubs or players can say that on so I think it’s an unbelievable signing.”

If he is available, then it feels a deal worth doing for City. They have seen first hand this season what he can offer.
