Young athlete from Gwent secures three national titles
An 11-year-old from Pontllanfraith has secured three national athletics titles.
Jayden Jones, a member of Rhymney Valley Athletics Club and pupil at Libanus Primary School, triumphed in the Welsh Athletics National Championship at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff.
He claimed victory in the 200m, long jump, and 60m sprint hurdles on February 1 and 2.
Competing in the under-13 boys age group, Jayden clinched these titles at his first opportunity, just two days before his 11th birthday.
A notable highlight for Jayden was meeting one of his idols, former sprint hurdles world record holder Colin Jackson.
Adding to his achievements, Jayden also boasts three East Wales Championships titles and a gold medal from the UK Minithon Championships in Lee Valley, London.
He is coached by his father, Kris Jones, a former Great Britain junior international sprint hurdler, and benefits from the expertise at the Christian Malcolm Sporting Academy.
Outside of athletics, Jayden is a promising rugby player, representing Oakdale RFC under-11s on the wing.
His talent has been recognised at the district level, and he is in his second season representing the Islwyn Schools District under-11s rugby squad.
