Eight-time gold medalist Katie Ledecky is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars for Team USA in the 2024 Olympics. This is her fourth Olympics, and she is still dominating opponents. In fact, earlier today, Ledecky won gold in the 1500-meter freestyle, for the second Olympics in a row. And it wasn't all that close.

Ledecky set a new Olympic record in the event with a time of 15:30.02, breaking her own record she set back in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. She was so far out in front that no other swimmers were even on screen when she finished.

However, after the race, it wasn't Ledecky stealing the show, it was one of her fans, who couldn't have had a better reaction to making eye contact with the swimming titan.

A young fan in the stands went nuts after Ledecky waved at her following her historic race.

You can see the fan mouth to the person with her, "She waved at me!" with a smile that can be encapsulated with three words: shock, awe, and excitement.

How many gold medals does Katie Ledecky have?

Ledecky's win in the 1500 freestyle gave Ledecky her first gold medal of 2024, putting her at eight total for her career – one in 2012, four in 2016, two in 2021, one in 2024. Ledecky has 12 medals in total with three silvers and one bronze on top of her golds. Her lone bronze came earlier in these 2024 Olympics.
